Repurpose Bot: Blog to Social Automation

Publish once. Get everything else written for you.

Repurpose Bot watches your blog's RSS/Atom feed. When a new post goes live, it writes your social content and sends it to the channel you already use. There's no server, no terminal and no monthly subscription. It runs on GitHub's free Actions tier and you set it up entirely from the GitHub website.

Built to be flexible

• One simple settings file. Change your feed, tone, AI models, delivery channels and content formats by editing config.yaml. Adding an Instagram caption is three lines. No coding needed.
• Two AI providers. Add an OpenAI key, a Gemini key, or both. If both are present it tries OpenAI first and falls back to Gemini automatically.
• Three delivery channels. Telegram, Discord and Slack. Use one or all.
• Any feed. Works with WordPress, Ghost, Blogger, Substack and anything else that publishes RSS or Atom.

Built to be reliable

• Safe first run. On its first run the bot skips all your existing posts and sends nothing, so you are never flooded with old content. Only posts published after setup are repurposed.
  To confirm everything works straight away, you can have it post your 2 latest posts once (one setting, explained in the Documentation tab).
• Spending control. A per-run limit caps how many posts are processed at once, so your AI bill stays predictable.
• Never posts the same article twice, even if a run is cancelled halfway
• Never sends empty or cut-off output
• Retries temporary failures, and stops retrying a post that keeps failing
• Splits long messages cleanly for each platform's limits
• Safe by default: keys stay in GitHub Secrets and mass-mentions are blocked

Who it's for

Bloggers, indie makers and small teams who want their writing promoted without rewriting it four times.

Setup (about 10 minutes, all in the browser)

1. Create a new GitHub repository.
2. Upload the files from the ZIP, keeping the folder structure.
3. Open config.yaml and set your feed_url (see "Your settings" below).
4. Go to Settings → Secrets and variables → Actions and add your secrets (see below).
5. Open the Actions tab and click Run workflow to test.

Secrets

Never put API keys, tokens or webhook URLs in config.yaml. Keep them in GitHub Secrets. Your repository may be public.

Your settings: config.yaml

Everything except secrets and the schedule is set in config.yaml. Open it on GitHub, click the pencil icon, edit, and commit.

Example: adding an Instagram caption

Add three lines under outputs:

What happens on the first run

By default, the first run skips all of your existing posts. The bot records every post already in your feed as "seen" and sends nothing. From the next run onward, only newly published posts are processed. You don't need to edit any data file.

To see it working immediately, set backfill_latest: 2 in config.yaml before your first run. The bot will repurpose your 2 latest posts once and skip the rest. After that first run the setting has no further effect.

If you ever want to re-process a post, remove its entry from data/seen.json and commit the change.

Getting your Telegram details

1. In Telegram, message @BotFather, send /newbot and copy the token.
2. Send any message to your new bot.
3. Open https://api.telegram.org/bot<YOUR_TOKEN>/getUpdates and copy the chat → id value.

Changing the schedule

The schedule lives in .github/workflows/repurpose.yml, not in config.yaml, because GitHub reads it directly. The default is every 6 hours (0 */6 * * *).

Troubleshooting

Open the failed run in the Actions tab and read the log. It states which provider or channel failed and why. If config.yaml has a mistake, the log names the exact setting to fix.

Tip: This setup guide is also included inside the product as README.md, so you'll always have it offline.

Change it yourself

• Tone, formats, AI models, channels, feed: edit config.yaml. To add Instagram captions, YouTube descriptions or any other format, add an entry under outputs.
• Schedule: edit the cron: line in .github/workflows/repurpose.yml.
